George Singleton -- 2011 Hillsdale Award for Fiction recipient -- has published four collections of short stories (These People Are Us, the Half-Mammals of Dixie, Why Dogs Chase Cars, Drowning in Gruel); two novels (Novel, Work Shirts for Madmen); and one book of writing advice (Pep Talks, Warnings and Screeds). His fiction has appeared in Atlantic Monthly, Harper's, Oxford American, Playboy, The Georgia Review, Zoetrope, The Southern Review and Glimmer Train, among others. Ten of his stories have appeared in the annual New Stories from the South anthology. He was a Guggenheim fellow in 2009.
