Gerald Barrax, Sr. - 2011 Donald Justice Award for Poetry recipient - is emeritus professor of English and Creative Writing at North Carolina State University, retiring first in 1997 and again in 2006. He is the author of five volumes of poems, including From a Person Sitting in Darkness: New and Selected Poems from LSU, 1998. He is a member of the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame and a recipient of the North Carolina Award for Literature. He is the father of five, grandfather of eight, and lives in Raleigh with his wife, Joan.
