Maurice Manning – 2009 Hanes Award for Poetry recipient – is a Kentucky native whose first book of poetry, Lawrence Booth’s Book of Visions, won the Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize.  His second book, A Companion of Owls, is written in the voice of Daniel Boone, and his most recent book of poetry is Bucolics. Manning’s work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Southern Review and The Virginia Quarterly Review, and has been featured on National Public Radio. He teaches in the Creative Writing Program at Indiana University and is on the faculty of the Warren Wilson College M.F.A. Program for Writers.
